Program Highlights:
Bang Kobua Community – Carbon-Free Boat Tour – DIY Natural Tie-Dye Workshop
Itinerary:
09:00 AM –
Arrival at Bang Kobua Community, a lowland area historically filled with lotus plants (bua), which inspired the name "Bang Kobua." The nearby Ban Pae Canal, once the main transport route covered in dense greenery, has been transformed into an eco-tourism route allowing visitors to explore and learn about the natural environment and the local way of life. This was one of the first communities in the area to pioneer community-based tourism.
09:30 AM –
Start your eco-friendly, carbon-free boat tour. Ride through the lush canal shaded by nipa palm trees and enjoy the peaceful green surroundings. During the journey, listen to a community guide explain the local waste management initiatives and the traditional riverside lifestyle of Bang Kobua residents.
"In the past, Ban Pae Canal served as a major water trade route to Khlong Toei Port. Once roads were built, boats were no longer used. This area used to be filled with nipa palms, rattan, mangrove apples, and mangroves."
Then, join a DIY natural tie-dye workshop using natural dyes extracted from local ingredients like nipa palm fruit, turmeric, Indian almond leaves, marigold (for yellow), sappanwood (for red or pink), coconut husk, and mangrove wood (for brown). You can enhance color depth by adding limewater or salt. Create your very own earth-toned fabric – a one-of-a-kind, eco-friendly design just for you.
11:00 AM –
Enjoy a taste of the community's unique local snack:
"Miang Kleep Bua Prik Kluea" – lotus petal wraps with salt and chili – a distinctive flavor you won’t find elsewhere.
12:00 PM –
End of the program. Farewell and thank you for visiting.
