Good to know
09:00 AM – Group meets at Ban Koh Rian Community, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. This historic community is located on an island in the Chao Phraya River, divided by the Koh Rian Canal. The community is renowned for preserving traditional Thai desserts, a craft passed down for generations since the Ayutthaya period. Here, you will have the opportunity to engage in making traditional Thai sweets at Baan Pa Mali Thai Sweets. This establishment, managed by Pa Mali, a descendant of Thao Thong Kham Ma, the royal palace’s head chef during the Ayutthaya period, is famous for its sweets. Thao Thong Kham Ma is known for creating many Thai sweets during the reign of King Narai the Great, particularly the "Thong" family of sweets—delicacies with a unique and sweet flavor.
You will learn to make authentic, ancient Thai sweets starting from the first step. Choose one of the following activities:
• Foi Thong (Gold Thread): Fine, neatly arranged threads of sweet egg yolk.
• Thong Yip (Golden Flowers): Beautiful flower-shaped sweets.
10:30 AM – Next, continue with an activity at the Koh Rian Community Enterprise where you will try making Phra Phai—a traditional Thai royal dessert. Phra Phai is a round-shaped sweet, symbolizing unity and everlasting love, often used in marriage ceremonies since the Ayutthaya period, especially during the reign of King Phra Phetracha. The dessert is filled with sweetened coconut and mung bean paste, representing the sweetness of love.
During this workshop, enjoy a traditional Thai snack, Ma Hor. This dish was once favored by royalty and aristocrats, known for its bold and spicy flavor, served with refreshing herbal drinks.
12:00 PM – End of activities and farewell with lasting memories.
