A Day Trip Near Bangkok – Conserving the Nipa Palm Forest
Good to know
DIY Tie-Dye Workshop – Kayaking – CSR Nipa Palm Planting – Local Cuisine Tasting – Herbal Compress Making – Foot Massage with Herbal Soak
Itinerary:
09:00 AM
Arrival at Bang Kobua Community, a historic area once known for its expansive wetlands filled with lotus plants. The area’s name, “Bang Kobua,” stems from the abundance of these lotus plants (called bua in Thai). The community lies along the Ban Pae Canal, once a major waterway for local transport, now transformed into an eco-tourism route offering insight into nature and local lifestyles.
09:30 AM
Begin your DIY tie-dye workshop using natural dyes sourced from local ingredients such as nipa palm fruit, turmeric, Indian almond leaves, and marigolds (which produce yellow hues); sappanwood (red or pink); coconut husks and mangrove wood (brown). Add limewater or salt to deepen the color tones. Create your very own, one-of-a-kind earth-toned tie-dye fabric to take home.
Enjoy a taste of the community’s signature snack: "Miang Kleep Bua Prik Kluea" – lotus petal wraps with salt and chili – a truly unique flavor experience.
11:00 AM
Join a zero-carbon, eco-friendly kayaking tour through the lush Ban Pae Canal. Paddle under nipa palm tunnels, take in the serene green views, and learn how the community manages waste and preserves the local environment. Discover stories of the past, when this canal served as a key trading route to Khlong Toei Port. The area used to be thick with nipa palms, rattan, mangrove apples, and mangrove trees.
Then, participate in a CSR nipa palm planting activity, helping to restore green space and reduce carbon emissions as part of environmental conservation efforts.
12:00 PM
Lunch at the Bang Kobua Community, featuring local specialty dishes rarely found elsewhere — including Gaeng Groob Maprao Aon (Young Coconut Curry).
Afternoon
Explore the benefits of Thai herbs and join in preserving traditional Thai wisdom through the Herbal Compress Workshop. Learn how this ancient remedy has long been used to relieve muscle tension and pain. At Bang Kobua, freshly prepared herbal compresses are used in shoulder, neck, and back massages—ideal for relieving office syndrome. The herbal mix includes lemongrass, turmeric, tamarind leaves, and phlai (Zingiber cassumunar). Fresh herbs are used for their enhanced medicinal absorption compared to dried ones.
Afterward, relax with a foot massage and herbal soak, using locally sourced herbal ingredients.
03:00 PM
End of program. Farewell with lasting memories.
